2003 Topps Heritage

The 2003 Topps Heritage set carries on the tradition of Topps premier vintage style sets with beautiful cards based on the 1954 Topps set. Topps introduced a few new features, and retained a lot of familiar features with the 2003 set. Similar to the night variation cards in the 2002 set, 2003 Topps Heritage includes 10 "Black Background" variation cards. A new type of variation was introduced that would become a fixture of future Heritage sets--the "Vintage Logo" variation cards. These cards have two variations, one with the current team logo for that player, and a rarer version with the team's logo as it appeared in 1954. There are ten "Vintage Logo" variation cards. The 2003 Topps Heritage set is numbered up to 430, but also includes the 20 variation cards. Card numbers 364-430 are all short print cards, plus there are an additional 13 short print cards dispersed throughout the first 363 cards in the set.

2003 was the first Topps Heritage set where Topps produced both a chrome parallel set and a refractor parallel set. The chrome cards are serially numbered to 1954 and the refractor cards are serially numbered to 554.

A ten card insert set called Flashbacks featured great moments from the 1954 season. This set replaced the Classic Renditions set of the previous two Heritage sets. The other two sets remained the same, a ten card Then and Now set and a 15 card New Age Performers set.

The 2003 Topps Heritage Clubhouse Collection insert set was really stacked, featuring such Hall of Famers as Willie Mays, Al Kaline, Duke Snider, Ernie Banks and quite a few current stars as well. The Real One auto cards also featured some notable players including Ernie Banks, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, Willie Mays and more!
