Brian Barton of the Atlanta Braves. I have to say, the name power in this set is pretty low, but the quality of the cards is much better than the last few Heritage sets when it comes to centering, roller marks, etc.

2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers Have Arrived

Just received my order of 2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers. Overall, the production quality seems to be a bit improved. The majority of the cards are centered well and I have not seen any (yet) with the infamous print roller marks. I did get three SP's out of one box that had the same dinged corner. None of the other cards in those packs had dinged corners, and the SP's are in the middle of the pack so it must have happened pre-pack-insertion. That's a little bit of a bummer, but the rest seem to be fine. First semi-big pull was this Matt Holliday Black Refractor #'d out of 60.

2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers Checklist

2001 Topps Heritage Chrome -- Wow!!!

Just how hard is it to find 2001 Topps Heritage chrome cards? Keep in mind that the chrome cards back then were numbered the same as refractors are numbered now. Each 2001 Topps Heritage chrome card was serially numbered to 552. There is a lot of 45 of them on eBay right now and the bidding is up to almost $1000 with more than two days to go! I am very interested to see if the bidding gets even higher before it ends. You can view the eBay auction here:

2001 Topps Heritage Chrome Lot

2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers Knocking On The Door

For the second year, Topps will be releasing a second series of their popular Topps Heritage cards. Check out the checklist here:

2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers Checklist

The 2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers set looks like it will have almost the exact same setup as the 2008 set. Just like last year there will be 220 base cards including short prints, a 15 card Rookie Performers set, a ten card Then and Now set, a 10 card Flashbacks set and a 100 card chrome/refractor/black refractor set. Of course there will be plenty of Real One autographs, Clubhouse Collection relic cards, auto relic cards, dual auto relic cards, dual auto relic autograph cards, etc. The Real One auto checklist looks kind of weak, but I think it looked weak last year before the set was actually released and Topps through a few unannounced Hall of Famer autos in the set. Hopefully they do that again. It will definitely bring some late year excitement to Topps Heritage enthusiasts.

Wow, Sweet Topps Heritage Mantle

Ran across this 2009 Topps Heritage 1/1 Mickey Mantle cut signature on eBay. Apparently this has happened like 49 times, but it's the first time I've ever seen it. Jayson stole second base, then he stole third base and then he stole home when the pitcher lobbed the ball back to the pitcher after a pitch. Yep, he stole all three bases in the same inning. Nice job Mr. Werth.

Red Ink!

Pulled this nice 2009 Topps Heritage Justin Masterson Real One Red Auto from a blaster (bonus) box the other day. The four variation cards found so far are (Click on to see examples):

2009 Topps Heritage #70 Tom/Thom Glavine Variation

2009 Topps Heritage #346 Fred Lewis Variation (Lewis/Wynn Pictured)

2009 Topps Heritage #445 John Smoltz Variation (Braves/Red Sox Uniform)

2009 Topps Heritage #488 Hanley Ramirez Variation (Marlins/Red Sox Uniform)

Heritage Comes Ripping

Finally, I have received Heritage. Here is the first card in the first pack I opened. Nothing too fancy, but this is how my 2009 Heritage started.

And here is my first semi-big pull, two boxes in. This one is a bit odd. It is the Hanley Ramirez All-Star card. The regular version has him in a Marlins uniform of course. The variation shows him in a Red Sox uniform, a team he has not played for since 2005. There is probably a story behind this card that relates to the 1960 #488 card, just not sure what it is yet.

2009 Topps Heritage Hanley Ramirez Variation

The First 2009 Topps Heritage Variation is Found

Much like the 2008 Heritage John/Jon Smoltz variation card, another misspelled card with a tie to 1960 Topps has popped up in the 2009 set. In the 1960 Topps set that 2009 Heritage is based on, the #70 card featured Lew Berdette, but Topps misspelled his name as "Lou" on the card. The #70 card in this years Heritage set is of Tom Glavine. Most cards are spelled correctly, but one "Thom Glavine" variation has been found. Here is the one Glavine variation card that has been found so far:

2009 Topps Heritage Thom/Tom Glavine Variation

2009 Dual Autos Spotted

A couple of dual autos have been spotted. Brentandbecca are always one of the largest openers of Topps Heritage product, and they just listed this master set on ebay:

2009 Topps Heritage Master Set from Brentandbecca

The interesting part about this is that they have the master set listed as 620 cards. They break it down as 500 base cards including short prints, the 45 insert cards that we all know and love, and 75 black back cards. This is the first I have heard mentioned about black back variation cards. Things may be about to get more interesting!

***UPDATE: Brentandbecca have taken down their master set with the black backs. I wonder if they got some bad information. I will shoot them an email and see if they can clarify. I post the update here if/when they reply.***

2009 Topps Heritage Hits The Streets

Looks like Heritage was not delayed. This is pretty common with Topps Heritage, but the 2008 set was released on time or perhaps even a few days early. Someone on the PSA message boards posted that their local dealer was saying the new release date will be this Friday, Feb. 27th. I can handle a couple of days, but if it's delayed any longer that that I might start showing signs of Heritage withdrawal!

2009 Topps Heritage Is Almost Here!!!

The scheduled release of 2009 Topps Heritage is now less than two weeks away! The cards are getting hard to come by with one of the major case suppliers, LRCards, recently going out of business. I checked today and yesterday for cases on ebay and there were NO hobby cases for sale at all! There is one retail case for sale and that is it. That is crazy. I've heard rumors that Topps has cut the production level this year, but I don't believe that has been confirmed. It's looking like either demand is way up this year, or production is down, or a combination of both. Either way, once 2009 Topps Heritage hits the marked it should be a Heritage frenzy. Here is a video preview of the 2009 Topps Heritage set. This video was actually released by Topps on youtube:

2008 Topps Heritage High Numbers Orlando Cepeda Auto

This was the best card I pulled from a case of 2008 Topps Heritage High Numbers. Orlando is a hall of famer that flies a little under the radar. 1959 was only Cepeda's second major league season, following up his Rookie of the Year 1958 season with another solid performance. In 1959, Cepeda hit .317 with 27 home runs, 35 doubles, 92 runs, 105 RBI and a career high 23 steals. So much for the sophomore slump.

2008 Topps Heritage Minnie Minoso Redemption Auto

I pulled this card from a pack of 2008 Topps Heritage. It was the first redemption card I have ever pulled. If you are not familiar with these, you basically get a "card" that you mail in to the card company, and then a few weeks or months later, the card company mails you the real auto card. I believe this Minoso was hand numbered to either 10 or 25, but I sold the redemption card instead of mailing it in. Here is what it looked like.

Nice Black Refractor

Here is a pretty nice looking 2008 Topps Heritage black refractor card of Todd Helton numbered out of 59. Helton's power numbers have been down the past few year from the monster years he used to put out, but he still hit .320 with 17 home runs and 91 RBI in 2007.

My First Big Pull of 2008

My first big pull from a 2008 Topps Heritage pack is this nice looking Minnie Minoso Flashback Relics card with a piece of authentic stadium seat from the old Cleveland Stadium.

A Sweet Auto to Kick Off 2007 Heritage

One of the first boxes of 2007 Topps Heritage produced this beauty, a Real One David Wright auto. I love the post and the design of this card, and if you look to the right (no pun intended) of Wright's signature, you can see where he wrote his jersey number "5" really small. Pretty sweet card.
