2013 Topps Heritage Checklist

We have begun the creation (aka educated guessing) of the 2013 Topps Heritage checklist. Only true Heritage geeks will appreciate this, so if you are one of those, take a look and let us know what your guesses are. We will continue to update this until the actual checklist is released.

2012 Topps Heritage Black Refractor

Well, after the initial rush has died down I might finally have some time to show off some of my 2012 Topps Heritage pulls.  Since I opened significantly fewer cases this year than in years past, I did not hit any of the super rare pulls, but I did get some nice cards.  I’ll start off with the black border refractors which are numbered out of 63 this year.

The first black refractor I pulled from 2012 Topps Heritage, and it came out of a Walmart blaster! Not too shabby.

I only pulled one black refractor out of two hobby cases, and it was this former Oakland Athletic pitcher:

I bought two cases of blaster boxes this year, with 16 blasters in each case. Through the first 31 boxes, I had pulled a grand total of zero autos and zero black refractors. Well, the final blaster box did not have an auto, but it did yield this nice black refractor:

A Look at 2012 Topps Heritage Before Release

The 2012 Topps Heritage set is scheduled to be released on Wednesday March 14th and if you have collect Topps Heritage in the past, you probably already know that the 2012 cards will be modeled after the 1963 Topps set (one of my personal favorites).  Packs will contain nine cards and hobby cases will contain 12 boxes of 24 packs.  All autographs are on the card and each hobby box will contain one autograph or relic card.

For the fifth consecutive year, the base set will consist of 500 cards and like the past few years, the last 75 cards will be short prints.  In addition to individual player cards, there will be multi-player rookie cards, league leader cards and World Series highlight cards.

The chrome sets will maintain the standard Heritage format with a 100 card regular chrome set (#’s out of 1963), a refractor set (numbered out of 563) and a black border refractor set (numbered out of 63).  All four regular insert sets return as well…the fifteen card New Age Performers set, the ten card Then and Now set, the ten card Baseball Flashbacks set and the ten card News Flashbacks set.  There will be a new 46 card Topps Stick-Ons set that is a tribute to the original 1963 stick-ons and there will also be serial numbered original 1963 Topps Stick-Ons in some hobby boxes.

The relic cards this year are similar to 2011, with 50 Clubhouse Collection relics, five Clubhouse Collection dual relics, ten Flashback stadium seat relics and the return of the coin and stamp cards.  There are two coin sets, the ’63 Mint set and a new JFK Story ’63 Mint set.  The stamp set is a seven card JFK Story Stamp Collection.

Autographs include the well known Real One (blue ink) and Real One Special Edition (Red Ink #/63), Real One Dual Auto’s, Flashback Auto’s and 1963 Cut Signatures.

Autograph relic sets will consist of Clubhouse Collection Auto Relics (#/25), Flashback Auto Relics (#/25) and Clubhouse Collection Dual Auto Relics (#/10).

Hobby box toppers will return for 2012 as well.  Each hobby box will contain either an advertising panel featuring a strip of three cards or a foil stamped 1963 Topps original card.

I will post more information on 2012 Topps Heritage as the release date approaches.

My First 2009 Heritage High Numbers Ink

Pulled an auto from a pack of 2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers. Brian Barton of the Atlanta Braves. I have to say, the name power in this set is pretty low, but the quality of the cards is much better than the last few Heritage sets when it comes to centering, roller marks, etc.

2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers Have Arrived

Just received my order of 2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers. Overall, the production quality seems to be a bit improved. The majority of the cards are centered well and I have not seen any (yet) with the infamous print roller marks. I did get three SP’s out of one box that had the same dinged corner. None of the other cards in those packs had dinged corners, and the SP’s are in the middle of the pack so it must have happened pre-pack-insertion. That’s a little bit of a bummer, but the rest seem to be fine. First semi-big pull was this Matt Holliday Black Refractor #’d out of 60.

2001 Topps Heritage Chrome — Wow!!!

Just how hard is it to find 2001 Topps Heritage chrome cards? Keep in mind that the chrome cards back then were numbered the same as refractors are numbered now. Each 2001 Topps Heritage chrome card was serially numbered to 552. There is a lot of 45 of them on eBay right now and the bidding is up to almost $1000 with more than two days to go! I am very interested to see if the bidding gets even higher before it ends. You can view the eBay auction here:

2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers Knocking On The Door

For the second year, Topps will be releasing a second series of their popular Topps Heritage cards. Check out the checklist here:

2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers Checklist

The 2009 Topps Heritage High Numbers set looks like it will have almost the exact same setup as the 2008 set. Just like last year there will be 220 base cards including short prints, a 15 card Rookie Performers set, a ten card Then and Now set, a 10 card Flashbacks set and a 100 card chrome/refractor/black refractor set. Of course there will be plenty of Real One autographs, Clubhouse Collection relic cards, auto relic cards, dual auto relic cards, dual auto relic autograph cards, etc. The Real One auto checklist looks kind of weak, but I think it looked weak last year before the set was actually released and Topps through a few unannounced Hall of Famer autos in the set. Hopefully they do that again. It will definitely bring some late year excitement to Topps Heritage enthusiasts.

Wow, Sweet Topps Heritage Mantle

Ran across this 2009 Topps Heritage 1/1 Mickey Mantle cut signature on eBay. Went for a nice amount too. Thanks to the owner (halscoins) for letting me use the scan of the card. Check out the eBay auction at:
